Canandaigua Airport planners eye more hangar space

Candy Peck doesn’t want to see the Canandaigua Airport grow too large. The Yerkes Road resident attended a presentation of the airport’s required master plan update and was encouraged that it appears there are no plans for an expansion.

“I’m all set,” Peck said.

In the process of compiling an interim plan update — which guides the future of the airport — runways and taxiways were found to meet Federal Aviation Administration, so no extensions are needed, said Zachary Staff, senior airport planner at Binghamton-based McFarland Johnson, the firm preparing the update.

The airport also meets safety standards, Staff said.

So now, the focus of airport officials and Ontario County is on hangar development, which would provide space for more corporate jets and bring businesses here.
