Newark woman received $1,160 in benefits illegally

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Newark woman following a welfare fraud investigation.

Deputies say Tonia J. Williams, 42, of Newark was arrested after an investigation was initiated by the Wayne County Department of Social Services.

Wayne County DSS notes that Williams began receiving SNAP benefits in April 2017, but that Williams failed to disclose total household income correctly.

As result she received $1,160 in benefits that she was not entitled to. She was charged with first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, fourth-degree welfare fraud and fourth-degree grand larceny.

The charges will be answered in Lyons Town Court at a later date.
