Sixteen members of Ontario County fire departments have completed a state fire police class.
The county sheriff’s office and county emergency management office conducted the class. It involved 18 hours of classroom training, followed by a written exam and three hours of traffic direction and control under the supervision of several instructors.
The practical portion was done at the Naples Grape Festival. Students completing the class are state peace officers when summoned to duty, and are authorized to direct traffic in and around emergency scenes.
