The Central New York Regional Economic Development Council is once again competing for state funding to support projects in the five-county area.
The panel released its 2017 progress report, which outlines 38 priority projects for this year’s contest. The list includes seven projects in Cayuga County.
The largest Cayuga County project is Currier Plastics’ $9.9 million expansion in Auburn. The plastics manufacturer plans to buy a new 165,000-square-foot building and produce packaging for the medical industry.
Currier Plastics requested a $1.8 million grant from Empire State Development, the state’s economic development arm, and $180,000 in tax credits linked to job creation goals. If approved, the project will retain 150 jobs and add 20 new positions.
