Casino revenue cuts Tyre town taxes

Discussion of a 2018 town budget will highlight tonight’s Town Board meeting.

Supervisor Ron McGreevy said the revenue the town received from the del Lago Resort & Casino license fee enabled the town to reduce the 2017 town tax rate by 50 percent compared to 2016.

“The gaming tax revenue share we received so far this year may allow us to reduce the town property tax rate by another 50 percent for 2018,” he said. “This would certainly be a huge benefit to our residents.”

The 2017 budget includes a general fund of $759,915, a highway fund of $396,688 and a Community Mitigation Fund of $130,000.

The current spending plan has other revenue of $1.01 million and a tax levy of $271,226. The 2017 tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value is $4.90.
