IJC chair says new commissioners won’t prevent Lake Ontario flooding

Seizing an opportunity to get a word with the White House, Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich spoke with Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday about Lake Ontario water-level concerns.

Reilich, who buttonholed Pence during a vice presidential visit to suburban Buffalo, said he urged the Trump administration to appoint new members of the International Joint Commission who would ditch the current lake-level regulation plan and be more sympathetic to shoreline residents.

But at the same time Reilich was venting his spleen at Pence, the current U.S. chair of the IJC was holding forth just a few miles away โ€” and she said emphatically that new leadership isn’t the answer.
