Stueben County man faces charges for illegally possessing weapons

A Canisteo man has been charged with multiple offenses related to owning illegally possessed weapons.

According to Troopers, information was developed that indicated 23-year-old Joseph Carter was in possession of a rifle and two illegally possessed daggers.

Troopers, along with Canisteo Police and the Steuben County Probation Department, went to Carter’s residence and found that he was in possession of the weapons.

Carter was charged with two counts of 3rd degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in the Village of Canisteo Court and remanded to the Steuben Co. Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail/$100,000 property bond. He is scheduled to reappear in court at a later date.
