Police: Auburn woman stole rental car from resident

An Auburn woman was arrested Saturday for taking a neighbor's rental car without permission, police said.

Auburn Deputy Police Chief Roger Anthony said the department received a complaint that 55-year-old Lori D. Holmes had stolen a rental car from a city resident.

Holmes, of 20 Thorton Ave. Apt. 303, had allegedly conned a neighbor into renting a white 2017 Hyundai Accent from Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Auburn. Then, Anthony said Holmes forcibly took the keys from her neighbor and stole the car.

"For whatever reason, Holmes could not rent a car herself," Anthony said. "The complainant was holding onto the keys and (Holmes) ripped them out of her hand. When you steal something directly from a person like that, it becomes a felony."
