Lyons man jailed after punching pregnant wife, threatening family with knife on Thanksgiving

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Lyons man on a number of charges after a Thanksgiving Day domestic incident.

Jacob F. Covert, 25, of Lyons is being held at the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secured bond after having been charged with second-degree assault, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree harassment.

Covert was arrested after deputies were called to the scene of a domestic incident at 3 Catherine Street in the Town of Lyons. He is accused of punching his pregnant wife in the throat causing her to fall to the ground.

Deputies say Covert then displayed a knife and threatened two other family members with it.

One of the family members was cut in the forearm area with the knife, before Covert fled the scene in a vehicle.

State Police and Deputies were able to locate Covert driving southbound on Maple Street Road in the Town of Lyons, where he then led police on a low speed vehicle pursuit and failed to stop until coming to his home address on Layton Street Road.

Covert was taken into custody without further incident, and arraigned in the Town of Sodus Court.
