Wolcott man escapes serious injury after car sheers utility pole, catches fire in Savannah

On November 23rd at approximately 12:11 am the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one-car crash on Wiley Road in the Town of Savannah.

The investigation revealed that a Ford Escape was northbound on Wiley Road when the operator fell asleep and exited the east side of the road clipping a telephone pole.

The vehicle rolled two times coming to rest in a corn field with electrical wires on it from the telephone pole, according to deputies.

Deputies say the vehicle caught fire as a result of the downed wires.

Deputies say the driver and sole occupant, Jordan High, 18, of Wolcott, escaped with minor scrapes. He was checked out by EMS and released.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on-scene by the New York State Police, Savannah Fire Department, Clyde Fire Department and Eastern Wayne ALS.
