Police investigate bank robbery on South Meadow Street

Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Tuesday afternoon at Tompkins Trust Company at 775 South Meadow St.

Officers responded to the robbery around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, and say a black male entered the bank with a handgun held down to his side and demanded a bank teller put money into a white plastic bag he was holding. The bank teller complied, and the male then ran away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The male was last seen running southward behind businesses located on Elmira Road, authorities said. Surveillance footage shows that the suspect was standing near the bank for several minutes prior to the robbery.
