A downtown Auburn restaurant has abruptly closed until the spring, continuing a shaky record of food service businesses at its location.
The owners of Patty Shack, which opened in April in Auburn's Plaza of the Arts, confirmed the closure Wednesday.
They attributed the closure to the cold weather, which has slowed sales and made the restaurant's patio — half their seating — unusable, they said.
The restaurant is owned and operated by Gena Poggi and Jeff Verno, who also operate the Empire Bar & Grill in Webster and Macedon, plus a Patty Shack location in the Wayne County town. The Auburn location serves burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes and similar fare, and its flagship Roc Plate is inspired by the garbage plate popular in the Rochester area.
