Sheriff: Phelps woman misappropriated thousands while employed by tourism council

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Phelps Business Development and Tourism Council employee after financial irregularities were noted during an investigation.

Deputies say that Sarah Hamilton, 30, of Phelps was charged with first-degree falsifying business records, and third-degree grand larceny.

It was determined that Hamilton misappropriated over $4,000, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The final audit will be completed before Hamilton’s court date in January 2018.

According to officials, the amount misappropriated could be significantly higher than reported by authorities at this time.
