The Weedsport Fire Department rescued an injured Red-tailed hawk that was stuck in a trap, according to a release from the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
On Sunday, Dec. 3, the DEC responded to a report of a hawk stuck in a tree off of Route 34 in the town of Cato. Environmental Conservation Officer Scott Sincebaugh found the bird had a trap firmly clamped to its leg. The trap's chain became tangled in a tree branch, leaving the raptor dangling in the air.
The Weedsport Fire Department brought its ladder truck to the scene and untangled the bird from the tree.
