It’s going to be a busy year at the venerable Smith Center for the Arts — and not all for the music, theatre and dance performances for which the opera house is known.
2018 will bring in what new Executive Director Susie Monagan and its board leader call a host of much-needed renovations. Armed with $719,500 in state grants, the Smith is ready to get going on the project, with work expected to begin in the summer.
Those renovations include the underwhelming dressing rooms, lower-level restrooms and adjacent Cabaret bar.
“We need to make sure it’s around for the next generations,” said Monagan of the opera house, an architectural gem that continues to leave visitors in awe.
