Hidden ‘recording device’ found in Thompson Hospital bathroom, under investigation

Authorities in Canandaigua are investigating a hidden recording device, which was placed in a unisex bathroom at F.F. Thompson Hospital, according to reporting by the Canandaigua Messenger.

Canandaigua Police Chief Stephen Hedworth confirmed the investigation and hospital officials responded on Thursday.

“The device was discovered by someone who uses this particular restroom on a regular basis and who noticed it right away so we are confident it had not been there for long. Upon discovering the camera, administration and security immediately searched the entire hospital to ensure no other cameras were present,” added hospital officials of the incident.

Chief Hedworth said that one of the challenges posed by technology is that it can be used in negative ways. He did say that the investigation got underway weeks ago, but that since it began the hospital has been ‘excellent’ in working with officials and law enforcement.

No additional details have been publicized.
