‘Labor of love’ at Canandaigua’s Unique Toy Shop

Looking through old pictures of his building on Main Street, Bob Taylor got to thinking.

Why not restore the Unique Toy Shop building, which houses the recently expanded store, to the way it used to be?

And so last June, that’s what Taylor had done.

“The photos certainly spurred the project,” Taylor said. “Canandaigua is historic, and so we’d like to keep it as original as we can.”

Dave Hayden and Greg Russell, two retired music and history teachers who volunteer with the Ontario County Historical Society, have been compiling histories of downtown buildings. They also were behind the popular “1964” exhibit at the Ontario County Historical Society.
