City Department of Public Works crews spent the better part of the day Thursday repairing a water main break at Main and Bristol streets, tying up manpower and traffic as a result.
According to Jim Sprague, director of public works, crews were called at approximately 7 a.m. Thursday to what they soon discovered to be a “difficult spot” — as a storm sewer runs over the top of the line, with a fiberoptic line for the neighborhood nearby and concrete from old utilities hampering efforts to get to the leak.
Bristol Street in that area was closed to motorists. Traffic on Main Street also was backed up during the repair, which Sprague said was to have wrapped up in the evening hours.
Although water bubbled up to the surface, water loss was not expected to be substantial, Sprague said.
