Deputies: Butler man falsely reported hit-and-run to ‘stay out of trouble’

Deputies in Wayne County have arrested a Butler man after the investigation into a hit-and-run accident, which had allegedly taken place on the north side of Wadsworth Road in Wolcott.

Upon investigation, it was determined that Robert A. Starnes, 23, gave a false report of what happened in Wolcott. He was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident.

Starnes alleged that he was struck by another vehicle while he was parked on Wadsworth Road, and that the occupant of the second vehicle fled the scene causing damage to his vehicle.

He further requested that an accident report be produced.

Investigation and interviews determined that no such accident occurred. He further admitted to striking something in the roadway and making the story up to stay out of trouble.

He was issued an appearance ticket and will answer the charge in Butler Town Court at a later date.
