As part of his State of the State address earlier in the month, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a listing of 12 “priority” Finger Lakes included in a $65 million initiative aimed at combating blue-green algal blooms.
Although Honeoye Lake made the cut, noticeably absent from the list was Canandaigua Lake, in which the harmful bacteria was found two years ago and made an unwelcome reappearance last year. Seneca and Keuka lakes — both of which experienced outbreaks last year — also failed to make the list.
Members of the Ontario County Board of Supervisors — and some state representatives — are looking to change that.
The board is considering a resolution Thursday night that calls on the governor and state legislators to include the three lakes in the program. Yates County also has passed a similar resolution.
