State Sen. John DeFrancisco confirmed Monday that he will enter the 2018 New York governor’s race, becoming the third Republican to launch a campaign for the party’s designation.
DeFrancisco, R-DeWitt, told syracuse.com that he plans to launch his campaign at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Holiday Inn on Electronics Parkway in Salina.
DeFrancisco said he will make the economy the centerpiece of his campaign, highlighting the record of two-term Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“When you see people are leaving New York more than they’re coming in, that shows a desperate state of affairs,” DeFrancisco said in an interview. “You cannot continue to raise taxes and fees and make it difficult for businesses to do business in New York state.”
DeFrancisco said his campaign filed paperwork on Monday afternoon with the state Board of Elections, formally declaring his candidacy.
