Dollar Tree, truss business pass Yates County board review

Village of Penn Yan applicant Rasikbhal Patel requested a Site Plan Review to renovate the long vacant former Super Duper supermarket at 211 Lake St., to make it suitable for a Dollar Tree Store. The plans call for the demolition of a later concrete block addition to the original building, and the reconfiguration of the parking lot.

Yates County Planning Board member Judy Wiltberger passed on the concerns of several citizens who contacted her to object to a third “dollar store” being allowed in Penn Yan, asking if this is the image the county wants to project. In response, member Caryl Sutterby praised Dollar Tree as a conscientious corporation that will “do it right,” while also criticizing another existing dollar store nearby for their lack of upkeep and cleanliness.

The board voted there was no countywide or intermunicipal impact, with Wiltberger’s as the only dissenting vote.

The Penn Yan Village Planning Board will review the plan at its Feb. 5 meeting in the village hall at 7 p.m.
