Jerusalem appoints Todd Whitford to justice post

At a special meeting of the Jerusalem Town Board Monday, Jan. 29, the board accepted the resignation of retiring Town Justice Matthew Davison, effective Jan. 31, and appointed Todd Whitford as the permanent replacement, upon his completion of judicial education courses and certification.

In the meantime, the board appointed Penn Yan Village Justice Matthew Conlon to serve as interim justice for the salary of $1,000 per month, plus clerk salary. Once certified, Whitford will serve through 2018, but will have to run for election in November.

The board thanked Davison and his wife, Sherie, for their many years of service as town justice and court clerk. Whitford will appoint his own clerk when he takes the bench. New board member Jamie Sisson also thanked Davison for his help in selecting his replacement. They also took recommendations from the Republican Committee.
