Red Cross reopens Canandaigua site

The American Red Cross has opened an office in Canandaigua to help provide services to people in Ontario County. It comes after more than three years after Red Cross closed its Canandaigua office as part of a move that included shuttering targeted offices nationally.

“We have a very robust disaster response team and they have been continuing services even when the office was closed,” said James Love, executive director of The American Red Cross, Greater Rochester Chapter. But after coming on as director of the Rochester area chapter two years ago, Love said he heard from donors, volunteers and others wanting to see the Canandaigua office reopen.

“Ontario County and Canandaigua are a tight-knit community,” Love said. A common theme expressed: “It would be great if we had the office down there,” added Love, noting it helps volunteer morale among other benefits.

Getting the green light in July, the office, open Mondays and Fridays, opened in mid-August in the City Mini Storage building at 493 S. Main St.
