DIGGING OUT & CLEANING UP: FLX forecast clears up as winter storm pulls out (full coverage)

For most of the region, the heaviest of snow has passed, but a number of advisories remain active — including a Winter Storm Warning, which runs through nightfall for most.

Follow the latest on what to expect this afternoon and evening below, or check out our photo gallery from Friday’s snowfall in the Finger Lakes by clicking here.

– The Winter Storm Warning remains active, along with multiple ‘travel advisories’ throughout the region. Crews are slowly getting out to take care of the roads. Give them the chance to get things moving again and avoid travel if possible.

– Sheriff Phil Povero has issued a No Unnecessary Travel Advisory for all of Ontario County until further notice. If it is essential that you drive, do so with caution in considering the changing weather conditions. Similar advisories are active in Yates, Cortland, Schuyler, and Steuben counties. Roads have been CLOSED in Cayuga County, per Sheriff David Gould. Emergency vehicles only on roadways until further notice. Most of the counties in the Southern Tier have similar advisories active, as they are contending with power outages, downed power lines and trees, too.

– Winds will continue to howl throughout the afternoon before subsiding later this evening.

– Little snow will fall between now- and nightfall. Perhaps an inch, or two more accumulation for parts of the Finger Lakes.

– Temperatures should remain moderate, and help ease tricky road conditions as the day concludes.

– There are tons of local closings and cancellations. Consult the list below for the latest from around the Finger Lakes. There are links below for more information on the active weather advisories, power outages, and more in the region.

– This weekend’s weather looks calm. Check out the FL1 Weather Center for the latest forecast from the National Weather Service. Temperatures should remain above freezing, which will mean a slow melt of the snow that has fallen.
