Weedsport mayor to be precluded from employee discussions after conflict of interest debunked

In a special meeting held Monday afternoon, the village of Weedsport passed a resolution precluding Mayor Jean Saroodis from discussions involving her son, James Saroodis, the village's Department of Public Works superintendent, who is currently on administrative leave until a decision can be made about his employment.

The special meeting, advertised on the village offices' door, was called "to discuss a previous resolution that was brought before the board with possible executive session with attorney to discuss possible discipline of a particular employee and any other business that may come before the board."

All trustees, Harry Hinman, Chris Lukins, Chere Perkins, and Steve Sims were present โ€” Mayor Saroodis was absent and was not available for comment.

Sims opened the meeting at 4:30 p.m. by acknowledging a statement Mayor Saroodis made in a meeting March 14, in which she claimed a conflict of interest, with not only an attorney the village hired to assist with the DPW employee matter, but also the entire law firm of Bond, Schoeneck and King.
