Cayuga County man sentenced for sexually abusing 12-year-old girl

Ira Thresher may have spared his victim from going to trial, but a Cayuga County judge said he continues to downplay the severity of his crime.

In February, Thresher, of 8752 Route 90, Genoa, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree criminal sex act, a class B felony. At the time, the 32-year-old admitted to sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl at his home.

Thresher could have faced up to 25 years in prison; however, in exchange for his guilty plea, Judge Mark Fandrich agreed to sentence him to no less than eight but no more than 10 years in prison.
