A 31-year-old Ithaca man is accused of having robbed the Elmira Savings Bank at 702 South Meadow St. on Thursday.
At around 1:20 p.m., police arrived at the bank and heard employees say a man who was armed with a knife entered the bank and demanded money from a teller, authorities said. The teller gave the man money and then the man fled from the bank.
An officer found Benjamin Brancato at around 1:40 p.m. when Brancato was standing in front of a business, police said. Bank employees confirmed he was the person who robbed the bank.
Police arrested Brancato, who was charged with felony first-degree robbery, officers said.
