Modified Common Core testing starts this week

Students across the state will take the controversial common core testing for the first time, since changes were made to the test last year.

The State reduced the number of testing days for each subject from three days to two and changed what students are required to know in each grade.

Supporters say the test is a good tool to track students' progress, while others argue it forces schools to focus on test preparation instead of teaching.

The English language arts test begins on Wednesday. Math testing is scheduled for next month.
