Police Chief Dave Christler is reminding village residents to lock their vehicles following a rash of larcenies from cars Thursday night.
Christler said there were eight thefts from parked cars in the southeast section of the village. Items reported stolen included money and personal possessions.
“None of the vehicles entered appeared to be broken into, which leads the investigating officers to believe the vehicles were not secured,” Christler said.
The thefts happened in the Vienna Street area, south of East Maple Avenue. Witnesses reported seeing a tall, white male with dark-rimmed glasses and long hair in the area.
Christler said the man, who was wearing a black hoodie, was seen getting into several cars in the parking lot of the state Developmental Disabilities Service Office. A car alarm frightened off the suspect before police arrived.
