Auburn City Council supports new hires, software upgrades, police safety equipment

The Auburn City Council gave its input on the proposed 2018-19 city budget Thursday.

Before offering his opinions, Councilor Jimmy Giannettino recognized the work city department heads put into making their budgets every year.

"We must constantly do more with less," he said. "We're not different than any other municipality across the state."

Councilors supported several staffing changes, such as adding a new technical director position within the Department on Municipal Utilities and upgrading a current part-time engineer to full time. However, councilors Terry Cuddy, Debby McCormick and Giannettino said they did not support a request made by Superintendent of Engineering Services Bill Lupien to hire an additional full-time engineer.
