Lyons Superintendent: Investigation into ‘suspicious person’ underway after alleged photos taken of children, parents

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and Lyons Central School District are looking into a suspicious incident, which unfolded in the Jackson Street area in Lyons on Thursday.

Superintendent Don Putnam said in a call to parents, and in a message posted to the district’s website, “I want to make you aware, that this morning one of our bus monitors reported suspicious behavior by an individual in a grey truck.  It is reported, that this individual was taking pictures of children and adults in the Jackson Street area.”

He continued, “We immediately contacted local law enforcement. At that time, school personnel were also sent to the Jackson Street area to provide extra supervision. We will continue to monitor this situation and take appropriate action to support student safety, in partnership with local law enforcement.”

Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Putnam says that the highest priority for the district remains the safety and well-being of students and staff. “We will continue to work in partnership with you and local law enforcement to provide a safe instructional environment, which promotes learning,” he concluded.
