Driver airlifted after colliding with Fairville Ambulance in Wayne County

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation of a crash on Austin Road in Arcadia, which happened on Saturday around 7:29 a.m.

Deputies say that a vehicle operated by Donald L. Dewandel, 85, of Newark was traveling eastbound on Austin Road when he struck the back of a Fairville Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance, which was parked alongside the road.



The collision is under investigation, but deputies say that Dewandel was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight for treatment of injuries sustained.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team was assisting.

The Fairville Fire Department and Ontario Ambulance also responded.
