The effort to attract more volunteer firefighters to Canandaigua continued with an open house.
The Erina Hose Co. on Saturday took part in the annual Recruit NY volunteer firefighter drive — as did many fire companies across the area and state. The initiative of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York was held at the Canandaigua Fire Department’s firehouse on South Main Street.
With additional support from the fire department, the all-volunteer group offered coffee and doughnuts — as well as a pitch for volunteers. People interested in volunteering could fill out an application and review materials that covered the department’s history.
Membership is one of the biggest themes of the drive, according to Eric Cooper, who is president of Erina Hose and a volunteer firefighter.
“It’s all about getting more volunteers in,” Cooper said.
