Penn Yan students show the trees some love

Penn Yan Elementary students from 13 classrooms got to dig into a special lesson last week when Laura Bailey, NY Greenhouse & Nursery Manager for ERP Environmental Fund, conducted sessions about the role and benefit of trees in the environment.

Educational content was adapted for each participating grade level and included information about topics such as air and soil pollution, carbon capture, wildlife habitat, social benefits of trees, and instruction on proper tree planting techniques.

After the in-school program, the students traveled to different locations along the Keuka Outlet Trail to plant 120 trees. The Penn Yan Kiwanis Club helped cover the cost of transporting students to the trail sites.
