The woman and her grandson injured in a fatal fire this week are both out of the hospital. The fire started just before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the home on East Palmyra Port Gibson Road.
Ginger Sullivan was burned on her hands and face trying to save her 84-year-old mother, Dorothy Bouwens, from the flames.
“I think I wouldn’t have made it and at that moment. I had to make a choice. You know, it was save myself and my grandson and hope that the fire department gets her out,” said Ginger. “That’s all that I could think to do, and I hope nobody ever has to make that choice. It’s hard. But I also know my mother wouldn’t have wanted me to die trying to save her.”
Ginger keeps replaying the morning over in her head. But she and her family are finding peace knowing that their mom and dad are together.
“The only good thing is she was ready to be with my dad; she’s been saying that to my whole family,” said Ginger.
