Yankees, Sabathia can’t get on track against Royals

The usually powerful Yankees’ offense couldn’t provide any thunder on Friday night as a strong start by Royals right-hander Jakob Junis boosted Kansas City to a 5-2 victory at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals struck early against Yankees starter CC Sabathia, thanks largely to the hitting and baserunning exploits of Whit Merrifield. The second baseman, who had three hits and three stolen bases, led off the first with a double to center and scored on an RBI fielder’s choice.
