State, local officials left reeling as Feher customers leave garbage at Waterloo location

Officials throughout Seneca County have been reeling since the abrupt closure of Feher Rubbish.

The company’s Border City location in Waterloo on State Route 5&20 had to be blocked after angry customers began leaving their garbage and totes at the shuttered site last week.

State and local officials will meet on Monday to determine the next steps of the process.

However, an emergency session of the Ovid Town Board is scheduled for Monday night. In that session, officials will declare a public emergency, which will waive the typical bid process for seeking out a new garbage removal service.

The Town of Ovid was one of the communities in the Finger Lakes that was serviced by Feher. Over the last 10 days, frustration has mounted — as all parties involved scramble to determine what steps are next.

The meeting in Ovid is slated for 7 p.m. at the Ovid Fire House.
