“Art for Auburn” artists are invited to help create a painted mural of hops & wheat, the ingredients used in brewing the craft beer made inside at 132 Genesee Street. The design was conceived by Kendall Doub, a professional artist and graphic designer based in Winston-Salem, NC. Doub connected with Art for Auburn Project Manager Jesse Kline through mutual friend Lynn Louise Larson, and plans hatched from there.
Kendall Doub’s work focuses on studio art and contemporary muralism, in styles ranging from abstract to illustrative. When not in the studio or outside painting walls, Kendall works as a graphic designer; doing everything from product and packaging to logos and branding. His clients include John Deere, Majesty Brands, Journeys & more. https://www.instagram.com/thatguydoub/
The Hops Splash Community Mural will be painted on the William Street side of Good Shepherd’s Brewing Co. in downtown Auburn from 9AM – 3PM on Saturday, June 23rd and Sunday, June 24th with rain dates TBA, only if there are long periods of heavy rain. Volunteer help is needed and encouraged; people are welcome at any point during the installation, and can stay for a brief period, or longer. Wear work clothing and come ready to be creative. No prior experience is needed to participate, and all materials & instruction are provided. Young children must be supervised and assisted at all times. Please BYOB, and sheet pizzas will be donated by Matt Bartolotta & Angelo’s Pizza, a long-time Art for Auburn supporter.
Brewer & Owner Garrett Shepherd expressed, “We are happy to partner on this public art installation, to add to the growing base of Auburn’s Art Trail stops. This project is yet another example of Downtown Auburn BID’s continued involvement in the community, and its ability to collaborate with multiple agencies. I applaud their efforts to engage our residents by working side-by-side with artists.” http://www.shepsbeer.com /
Jesse Kline shared, “The Hops Splash Community Mural will again give the community at large the opportunity to collaborate, and enjoy a sense of ownership and accomplishment by continuing to usher in Downtown Auburn’s Renaissance.”
The Hops Splash Community Mural is made possible, in part, with public funds from NYSCA’s Decentralization Program, administered locally by Auburn Public Theater and Finger Lakes Community Arts Grants (FLCAG). This project also has financial support from the Downtown Auburn BID and Good Shepherd’s Brewing Co. The local Real Deals discount store, owned by Jim Seamans, donated the paint brushes for the project.
