Penn Yan teens arrested after physical altercation with police

Two Penn Yan teens were arrested by Penn Yan police after an incident at the Outlet Trail on Wednesday following a fight with officers.

While police were at a property on Cherry Street on an unrelated detail when two teens – identified as Samantha Leach and Jakob Lass were observed walking three dogs on the Trail.

Police say the female walked over to the marked patrol car and spit saliva on it. Officers made contact with the duo, who became belligerent and uncooperative.

They were eventually identified as 18- and 16-year-old Penn Yan residents. As police attempted to detain Lerch, who refused to comply with orders – Lass interfered resulting in a scuffle.

Police say he attacked one of those officers involved, and as result – was arrested on multiple charges.

The two were arrested for resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration, assault, endangering the welfare of a child, vicious dog, and unlawful possession of marijuana.
