The village of Weedsport Board of Trustees has promoted two Department of Public Works employees to the positions of DPW superintendent and assistant superintendent and hired two new motor equipment operators.
Trustee Steve Sims said the village board on Monday promoted DPW Assistant Superintendent Jeff Goodell to be the new superintendent. The role, however, is not completely new to Goodell.
Goodell was authorized as the "employee left in charge" of the department on Feb. 14, during the absence of the former DPW superintendent, James Saroodis, meeting minutes indicate. Saroodis was placed on paid administrative leave days earlier.
Later, it was reveled that Saroodis was placed on leave two days after a law firm's investigation into a workplace violence and sexual harassment claim filed by a DPW employee, Carson DiRisio, against Saroodis was finalized. The law firm found that some allegations made in the harassment complaint were substantiated, which ultimately led to Saroodis and the village striking up a separation and resignation agreement in April which entitled him to no admission of wrongdoing, months of continued pay, health insurance and other professional and monetary benefits.
