After nearly a decade of operating successfully, the Skaneateles Swap Shop is closed until further notice, town officials said.
The town of Skaneateles runs the Swap Shop at the Skaneateles Transfer Station, where residents can take their trash and materials for recycling. The Swap Shop is designed for people who have usable items they don't need anymore, said Skaneateles Town Clerk Julie Stenger.
It is located by the transfer station at 1676 Old Seneca Turnpike.
Residents could drop off these usable items at the small transfer station, and then take something someone else has left.
It worked for years, but now it's being abused, officials said. The Skaneateles Town Board has decided to close it until a solution is found to the junk problem.
