Police: Dog left inside 110-degree car in Geneva dies; owner charged with felony

A 29-year-old Geneva man was arrested on a felony charge after a dog died in a parked, 110 degree car in the city.

The Ontario County Humane Society and Geneva Police Department were called to 19 North Street after a dog – named Shadow – was found dead in a car that was left with no ventilation for around 50 minutes.

Authorities say the 5-year-old boxer mix dog was inside the vehicle, which was parked in direct sunlight – on an 80 degree day. The temperature inside the vehicle was over 110 degrees, according to the Humane Society.

A necropsy showed that Shadow died of heat exposure.

Roger Chilson, 29, of Geneva was charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal, which is a felony, and taken to the Ontario County Jail to be held on pre-arraignment.

The charges will be answered at a later date.
