Anxious to play a real game against another team after months of extended spring training, it was the Doubledays’ youth that sparked a season-opening win.
Guided by five strong innings from 20-year-old pitcher Malvin Pena and a two-hit, two-run, two-RBI game from Ricardo Mendez, Auburn topped the Batavia Muckdogs 5-1 Friday at Falcon Park. It’s the eighth time in the last nine years that the Doubledays have started the season off with a win.
It’s a great evening for some ⚾️! @Doubledays #OpeningDay Some nice upgrades to the park and more amenities! A wall full of sponsors, nice weather, and a hometown team! I think for one game they should do a food truck night! #Auburn Went to @Nationals game a week ago! pic.twitter.com/oGSTRSMjqZ
