Victor Fire Department holds public hearing on consolidation plan

The Village and the Town Board of Victor will get together Monday night to consider the fire district plan and hold a public hearing so people can give their input.

The Victor Fire Department covers the Village and part of the Town of Victor. That is what would become the new fire district.

It’s got 53 firefighters and it has been a volunteer force since it was founded in 1904. But in recent years it’s run into trouble bringing in those volunteers and rustling them up if there’s a fire.

“It’s an excellent volunteer fire department but they are struggling with recruiting volunteers and retaining volunteers,” stated Gary Hadden, Victory mayor. “And the volunteer population they have is aging. That is a concern. And they’ve identified that during the daytime hours, it’s hard to cover.”
