The Yates County Legislature has agreed to begin a search for a new County Administrator. During a special meeting Monday, June 25, Legislators unanimously authorized county personnel officer Kerry Brennan to begin advertising the position. The post will be vacant when current administrator Robert Lawton leaves the position in time to take over as City Manager of Turlock, Calif. by July 12.
A task force chaired by District 1 Legislator Ed Bronson will review applications, conduct screening interviews and reference checks before presenting two to three candidates to the county legislature for final interviews.
The task force has met three times to review the work done by the 2016 task force, and make recommendations to the full legislature. The task force included Legislators Leslie Church, Timothy Dennis, Elden Morrison, and Jim Multer, and Brennan, County Attorney Scott Falvey, Treasurer Nonie Flynn, Director of Public Health Deb Minor, and Legislative Chairman Douglas Paddock, who chaired the 2016 task force.
At Monday’s meeting, the legislature made some revisions to a proposed local law establishing the office of County Administrator and a new job description for the position. The local law will be the subject of a public hearing at 1:15 p.m. July 9, the next regular legislature meeting.
Legislators also unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the chairman (Paddock) to perform the powers and duties of the county administrator while the position is vacant.
