The red, white and blue-laden environment of Fair Haven’s Fourth of July children’s parade is exactly the kind of event Rana Huston wants her granddaughter Kairi Huston involved in.
Since Rana’s husband, Carl, passed away in January, Rana and Kairi, 5, are planning to move to the local area from Liverpool later this summer. Though Liverpool is larger, Rana wants Kairi to be surrounded by the community involvement Rana believes the parade exemplifies.
“There’s a lot of community spirit here. There’s a lot for everybody, the kids, everybody knows everybody,” Rana said. “I wanted to get her involved.”
The parade featured children and adults marching from the Fair Haven Fire Department to the nearby carnival area Saturday. The village has held Fourth of July events throughout the week, including musical acts and a car show.
