U.S. Rep. John Katko joined a chorus of bipartisan lawmakers criticizing President Donald Trump for his comments regarding Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and defense of Russian President Vladimir Putin at a joint press conference Monday in Finland.
Trump said Putin denied Russia’s involvement in the cyber attacks, despite mounting evidence and investigations conducted by U.S. intelligence agencies.
“He just said it’s not Russia,” Trump said while responding to a question at the press conference. “I will say this: I don’t see any reason why it would be.”
Trump also expressed interest in what he described as an “incredible offer” by Putin to have Russians team with American investigators on the inquiry into Russia’s election meddling.
