This week, downtown Penn Yan will host their third “Third Thursday” evening hours party, with participating shops staying open until 8 p.m. The monthly celebration of the excitement building in the renewed downtown of Penn Yan is the brainchild of Yates County Chamber of Commerce CEO Jessica Bacher and Finger Lakes Economic Development Center CEO Steve Griffin. Started in May, Third Thursdays have already proven popular with visitors and locals alike.
“Our goal is to do this year ’round,” says Bacher. “There’s a lot of buzz about Main Street and all of downtown right now, and we want to capture that excitement to attract people here to meet, shop, and socialize.” Over a dozen establishments are staying open and hosting special guests for the enjoyment of downtown shoppers.
Local author Aileen Easterbrook will be autographing “W is for Waterfall: An Alphabet of the Finger Lakes” during Penn Yan’s Third Thursday, July 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Longs’ Cards & Books. Refreshments and baked goods will be served, and there will be coloring pages and stickers for kids. For more information, contact Long’s at 315-536-3171.
