Deputies: One killed, another seriously hurt in East Bloomfield crash

Deputies say an investigation is underway into a fatal accident that happened in East Bloomfield around 10:33 pm.

Deputies, State Troopers, the East Bloomfield Fire Department, East Bloomfield Amublance, and Canandaigua Amublance were called to the intersection of State Route 5&20 with State Route 64 for a one-car accident with injuries.

A vehicle traveled through the intersection and struck an embankment. Deputies say Peter Maruffi Jr., of Canandaigua was treated at the scene for life-threatening injuries.

He was later pronounced dead at Thompson Hospital, according to deputies.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of internal injuries.

State Route 5&20 was closed from State Street to Rabbit Run for more than three hours. Part of State Route 64 was also closed for that period.

The investigation into the cause of the accident remains active.
